Wedding Day
Our wedding planning journey started in January of 2023. Our goal was to capture what we loved most about traditional Indian and American weddings. Along with combining the dΓ©cor and visual elements, we hoped to celebrate the values of both cultures. Our ceremony followed the Hindu tradition with a more American flow of events, and an emphasis on the rituals that reflect our upbringing.
Creating this fusion took some back and forth, but the guidance we received from family and our planner helped create a beautiful mix of traditions that were fun and meaningful to us.
Our reception sprinkled in a healthy dash of Bollywood flare by having an Indian sangeet (music and dances) performed by family and friends. The feeling of being surrounded by loving smiles, loud cheers, and carefree dancing was exhilarating! Our memories of July 8th will always bring us a deep sense of joy and belonging.
The Proposal
Megan and Vilas met through an online dating app in early 2021. They arranged a first date in Burbank on February 7th. Some nervous introductions were followed by boba drinks and a bit of small talk. The two then walked to a nearby plaza and sat down to chat and get to know each other. Megan loved Vilasβ straight forwardness and nerdy interests, and Vilas loved Meganβs quirky enthusiasm and savvy inclinations. Over the next year and half their relationship would grow to into something worth cherishing for a lifetime.
Around October of 2022, some friends convinced Megan to join Vilas on his work trip to Hawaii. Their journey began with a smooth flight, followed by a bumpy landing, and then a beautiful drive to the Turtle Bay resort in Oahu. Megan suspected this beach paradise might lead to a proposal. She "lightly" surveyed the bags hoping to catch a glimpse of something shiny, but to no avail. The couple spent a few days exploring the north shore and soaking in its beauty.
Before leaving Hawaii, on the 4th of November 2022, Vilas took Megan to a quiet little section of Turtle Bay. They sat on the beach, facing the ocean, and ate a picnic lunch. And while sharing the last few bites, Megan discovered a mysterious box laying at the center of her picnic basket.
